Special Education

Welcome to special education services!

The school year has gotten off to a great start with special education services.  The directed reading interventions are well underway for Horizon's A-B (for early phonics and decoding skills), Corrective Reading/Decoding for third to fifth graders and Horizon's C-D, levels 1 to 3, for developing comprehension and fluency.  Read Naturally is another reading intervention, with multiple levels, that have story passages to develop fluency and comprehension.  Students are developing reading skills according to their individual needs.

Math support amd accomodations are usually provided within the student's classroom.  The students are working on developing their grade-level math skills with the necessary building of math concepts through constructing/drawing models, using manipulatives and cooperative learning activities.

To keep families informed about their student's progress, a note will be sent home to report your student's achievement levels on the skills they have been working to develop.  These progress reports are sent each full week of school.  You are a very important part of your child's success.  As a team we can make a real difference in the learning success of your child! We look forward to working with you during the coming year.
