As this school year ends, I  am becoming somewhat melancholy.  You have amazing children and I thank you for allowing me to be their teacher.  I wish you all the best!  Good luck my Pre-K friends!  I will miss you!  Have a great summer!

January 10, 2013 Happy New to Everyone!

We have started back to school with a bang!  We are back to work and are as busy as ever.

Language Arts-  We are reading informational books and are truly understanding how text features help us comprehend the book.  Students can identify a text feature and can tell how it helps us understand.  We are continuing to work with reading words by using vowel rules.  At this time, first graders should know the long and short vowels and can be able to apply them as they sound out.  We are taking our learning about informational books and transforming it into our own writing.  Each student has picked an animal that he or she would like to learn about.  We have been researching our animal.  We have just completed the organizer and just today have started to work on the pages.  Students are doing a really great job!

I hope you had a relaxing Thanksgiving with your families!  Although the week of Thanksgiving was short, we participated in 2 exciting activities:  a visit from the New Midway Volunteer Fire Department and the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walk-a-thon!  Both were lots of fun!  Enjoy the pictures below!
