It is my pleasure to be teaching a seventh year here at Whittier. I am really proud to be working with a caring group of educators and the warm and welcoming Whittier community. I was born and raised in Frederick County and am a product of FCPS. I graduated from Hood College in 2004 with a degree in Early Childhood. I recently earned my Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate and am certified to teach through fifth grade.
Over the past fifteen years, I have gained teaching experience in Kindergarten, First and Second grades. It has been a joyous decade and I am thrilled to be teaching a fifth year in PreK. As an educator, I make it a priority to create a safe and nuturing school environment that's free from bullying/name-calling and affirms each person's worth and potential to succeed. I also strive to provide high quality instruction, use stimulating materials, and opportunities in the arts and technology.
I believe that an important element in our classroom is family involvement and extend a welcoming hand to our children's families. Throughout the year, there are opportunities for parents to become involved through our school PTA, parent volunteering, interactive family homework, and school sponsored family nights centered around science and math.
It is my sincere desire to nurture and celebrate each child through powerful learning experiences that:
*build on children's interests, backgrounds and abilities,
*allow interactive collaboration,
*encourage hands-on, project based inquiry and discovery,
*ensure all students equal access in a safe environment, and
*promote critical thinking, holistic understanding and independence.
