Hi! My name is Jen Waugaman and I am very excited to be on the special education team this year. This is my tenth year teaching and my fourth year at Whittier Elementary. I previously taught in the Howard County Public School System, but took some time off to be with my two wonderful daughters. I taught special education for 5 years in Howard County in all grade levels 1st - 5th grade. My sixth year of teaching was spent as a classroom teacher in the 2nd grade. I am dually certified in elementary and special education and have my Masters in Reading Specialist. I am also certified in early childhood education. I am currently taking graduate classes to earn my second Masters as an Elementary Math Instructional Leader through McDaniels College.
I am originally from Pennsylvania, just north of Pittsburgh. I now live right here in the Whittier community with my husband, Ben, my two daughters, Emalyn and Alivia, and our dog, Ryleigh. I love it here in Frederick and feel that the Whittier community is an exceptional place to live.
I am looking forward to a fun and productive year working with the primary grades and am super excited to share my love of math! I plan to work hand and hand with your child's teacher and feel that the students are double blessed to have access to two great teachers! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
The most convenient form of communication is via email. I try to check my email a couple of times a day. However, if this is not the best form of communication for you, please feel free to call me at school. You may also choose to send in notes with your child and I will be sure to contact you in a timely manner. Please remember to send in a note for early dismissal and absences. Thanks! Looking forward to an amazing year!!
