Welcome! I am so glad that your child is a part of our kindergarten class! During these first few weeks of school, we will be focusing on getting to know each other. I look forward to learning more about your child’s interests, personal traits, social habits, academic strengths and weaknesses and his/her learning style. Here is a little about me.
This is my 10th year teaching in Frederick County but my 16th year of elementary teaching. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from the University of Texas. I recently completed my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Literacy at Wilkes University. I taught second grade and kindergarten in Texas and New Jersey before moving to Frederick in 2003. Since moving here, I have taught at Thurmont Primary, Glade Elementary and Walkersville Elementary. When I am not teaching, I enjoy running, reading and driving my children, ages 14 and 17, around to their various activities.
As your child's teacher, my goal is to ensure that he/she is engaged in deep learning and reaches his/her highest potential. I invite you to partner with me this school year by assisting your child with homework, playing games/activities that relate to your child’s learning at school (I will provide you with ideas in our weekly letters and materials/games during conferences), volunteering in the classroom or for special events (if you are able), checking your child’s Take Home Folder each evening and talking to your child daily about what he/she learned at school. This home-school partnership is vital to your child’s achievement. A strong home-school partnership begins with effective communication. I will be communicating with you through weekly letters in a home-school journal, emails, phone calls, notes and a daily Take Home folder.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. You can write me a quick note, email me at email@example.com or call 240-236-1000. I am looking forward to this school year as we partner together to ensure your child has an exhilarating and engaging year.
