A little about Mrs. Caulfield

This is my eighth year teaching elementary instrumental music at Ballenger Creek, Butterfly Ridge, Carroll Manor, Orchard Grove, and Tuscarora Elementary Schools.  Previously, I was the instrumental music director at Governor Thomas Johnson High School.  While at TJ, I directed the marching and concert bands, as well as the jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, and orchestra.

I have my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Music Education from Shepherd University.  I was a 1998 graduate of Linganore High School.  I currently live in Frederick with my husband, Bill and my three beautiful children.  We have a wonderful dog named Peyton.

I am very excited to continue to teach the students at the elementary level.  I know it is going to be a great year!

A little about Mrs. De La Rosa

I was born and grew up in Baltimore County, MD.  While in high school, I participated in marching band, concert band, jazz band, all-county band, all-state band, all-eastern band and played piano for the show choir.  I attended Shepherd College (now University), and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education.  I also have my Masters of Music Education degree from Shenandoah University and my administrative certification from Hood College.

When I graduated from Shepherd, my first job was teaching elementary general and vocal music at a school in Montgomery County, MD.  I only taught there for 1 year, because I was offered and accepted a position with the Waynesboro Area School District in Waynesboro, PA.   I taught elementary general, vocal and instrumental music in Waynesboro for 7 years.   During this time, a series of events brought me to Frederick County Public Schools, where I am currently in my 16th year of teaching.  I taught middle school band and theater arts for 2 years, but always knew that elementary school was my first love.  I accepted a position as an elementary school instrumental music teacher, and this is where I hope to stay!

I currently reside in Frederick, MD with my husband Kevin, and my children Andrew, Blair and Kaitlynn.  My kids all attend and/or graduated from Frederick County Public Schools.

Assignments and Assessments

Students are expected to practice 20 minutes each day.   A practice chart is used at home to record student mastery of specific assignments in the book and of assigned sheet music.  Students are formally and informally assessed throughout each lesson.  Students will play as a small group, large group and alone, and are expected to show progress on skills listed in the FCPS instrumental music curriculum.

Approximately every 10 weeks, students will receive a progress report which will be sent home in their band/music folder.   Students are assessed on playing skills, work habits, personal skills, attendance and overall achievement.

All 2nd year students take summative assessments 3 times a year.

Concert Information

Most of our second year students will perform at their school at a daytime concert in December 2018 and at Tuscarora High School for an evening feeder pattern rehearsal on January 6, 20202 and concert on January 7, 2020.

All band students (woodwinds, brass and percussion) participate in their spring concert the evening of May 12, 2020.  All orchestra students (strings) participate in their concert the evening of May 13, 2020.  All evening performances occur in the Tuscarora High School auditorium and include students from all 5 elementary schools.

For evening concerts, students need to wear "concert dress"-black dress pants (no jeans) or skirt (knee length), white dress shirt (no t-shirts), black socks/stockings/tights, and black dress shoes (no sneakers).

Thank you!

A big thank you to The Community Foundation of Frederick County, Dan Crozier Music Trust Grant.  For the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2018-19 school years, we were awarded funds that enabled us to purchase band and orchestral selections to perform at future concerts. This music will be available to all elementary instrumental music teachers in the county.  We have also received funds to purchase instruments for use by our neediest students.  We are extremely appreciative for the generousity of the Community Foundation!
