  • Mr. Adamiak is the school's Advanced Academic Specialist
  • Focus efforts with teachers that have Highly Able Learner (HAL) students in Honors classes. The 6th grade teachers involved are: Mr. Isleib in Science, Ms. Georgi in Social Studies, Ms. Kaveney and Ms.Waybright in Language Arts, and Ms. Boyle in Math. The 7th grade teachers are: Ms. Poti in Science, Ms. Jung in Social Studies, Ms. Long in Language Arts, and Mr. Erb in Math. 

     The 8th grade teachers are : Ms. Spencer in Science, Ms. DeGroat in Language Arts, Ms. Allison in Math and Ms. Blakeslee in Social Studies.

  • Facilitate learning experiences for individual students who exhibit characteristics of giftedness. This includes a variety of teaching methods based on differentiated instruction.
  • Provide professional development for teachers to ensure appropriate degrees of academic challenge. Examples include: curriculum compacting, tiered questioning, flexible grouping of students, learning centers, formative assessments and extension menus.
  • Coordinate a school-base screening committee to identify students for participation in HAL
  • Provide a structure to encourage, mentor, and assist students to pursue independent investigations based on student interest and/or ability.

  • UMS Science Fair
  • The County Science Fair
  • Service Learning
  • Trout in the Classroom
  • Science Olympiad 

Mr. Adamiak has been teaching for over 20 years.  He attended WVU and earned a Bachelors Degree in Forestry/Wood Industries. He is certified in Earth Science and taught 8th science for a number of years.  He has been on staff at both Thurmont and Monocacy Middle. Mr. Adamiak is married to Dr. Stacey Adamiak, Principal of the Flexible Evening High and Virtual School. He has two boys; Daniel a graduate from Shepherd University and Matthew, a graduate from WVU and University of Houston. Megan, his step daughter, attends Darmouth College. His hobbies include: cycling, mountain biking, white water kayaking, skiing, running and backpacking.

Mr. Adamiak has been at the school since it opened in 2007.
