Welcome to my webpage. I am excited to be teaching 3rd grade at Urbana Elementary. Teaching is my passion and I cannot imagine doing anything else.
I have a bachelor's degree from Clarion University in Pennsylvania. I am certified in Elementary Education and have earned my Advanced Professional Teaching certification. I completed training that qualifies me as a teacher consultant with the Maryland Writing Project. I have been a mentor teacher to Hood interns. Prior to becoming a classroom teacher, I was a 2nd grade teacher and a Targeted Reading Teacher.
My teaching philosophy is to help each student become more independent and assume responsibility for their own learning. Not only do I hope to inspire a love for learning but also help them to develop skills to become great thinkers and problem solvers. I am very positive and full of energy. I have high expectations for all of my students and will do whatever I can to help them be successful. I also believe that the home/school connection is a vital component in ensuring student growth and success in school.
You can contact me by writing a note in your students agenda, by phone, or by email. I check my messages daily and will return messages as soon as possible. I am also available to conference before and after school if you have concerns and questions about your student. You do not have to wait for conference time to meet with me to discuss your students progress or any concerns you may have.
I was born and raised in the small town of Thompson, Pennsylvania. I have been married for 33 years and have 3 children. My husband, Jeff is a DBA and travels to Bethesda daily. All 3 of our children went to Urbana Elementary School. This school is a very special place and I am grateful to be a member of the Urbana family. Our daughter Lauren is Towson University graduate and a Nurse at John Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. She and her husband, Shane reside in Baltimore. They have blessed us with 2 grandchildren, Nate and Luke. They are soon to 1 and soon to be 3 and bring us tons of joy. Allison is a St. Mary's College graduate. She most recently taught English in South Korea. She is now in the Netherlands pursuing her masters degree. She loves to travel and has helped us to become world travelers as we follow her to each of her adventures. Our son Matthew graduated from Lewis and Clark Law School in Oregon. He is currently working at the Social Security Administration as a Legal Analyst. He is married to Stephanie, another lawyer. They have an adorable puppy, Holly. We recently purchased a condo in Ocean City, so that is where I spent much of the summer. We love having family and friends visit. I also enjoy biking, hiking, walking and pretty much any outdoor activities. During the summer we love to spend time at the beach and traveling to visit Allison.
