Welcome to 5th grade. As a 5th grader, your child will become more independent and responsible for his or her learning. It is my privilege to work with your child this year and to prepare him or her for the challenges of middle school.
I attended Frostburg State University where I obtained and Early Childhood/ Elementary Education degree. I was hired to teach fourth grade in August of 1999. After teaching for three years, I transitioned to fifth grade. From there, I graduated from Hood College with a Masters Degree in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction. This will be my 16th year of teaching.
The best way for you to contact me is through written notes in your child's agenda. I check agendas daily and will respond the same day. Also, I am available by phone from 8:00-8:30 and 3:45-4:45. Phone messages and e-mails are checked throughout the day.
I view my classroom as a community of learners. We learn how to work with and learn from others. Respecting and accepting the view points of each other is one of the main focuses in my room. Cooperative learning is used throughout my room. In addition, independent reading and writing takes place everyday.
