"I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys to learning." - Plato

From learning your ABC's to memorizing your math facts, music has always been a powerful teaching tool. I know many adults today that when asked to recite the alphabet have difficulty doing so without singing! Developing an understanding of musical concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, history, culture, and much more can help students make connections outside of music class. Through my experience and continued study, I believe music education to be a vital ingredient in a child's education.

I was born in a small town in Louisiana, but moved here to Frederick County when I was 7 years old. I attended grades 2 through 12 in Walkersville. I was very involved with the music program in Walkersville and decided to continue that experience into college at West Viriginia University, where I decided to teach music. After graduating and recieving my PreK-12 Maryland teaching certification, I applied for elementary school positions right here in Frederick County. I was fortunate enough to be offered a position and have been teaching here for the past 16 years (the last 13 of which have been at TuES). I also conduct several children's groups at a church in Hagerstown.
