Welcome to Kindergarten Math!

These are some of the math skills that we will be working on throughout the year in Kindergarten:

  • Counting to 100 verbally by ones and tens, starting at any number 
  • Identifying the numbers from 0-100 (out of order)
  • Writing the numbers 0-100
  • Counting sets of objects up to 31 in any arrangement and knowing "how many" is in the set
  • Making sets accurately up to 31
  • Matching numbers to sets from 0 to 31
  • Ordering numbers and sets from the least to the greatest from 0 to 20
  • Comparing two sets and written numerals using the words more than, greater than, less than, fewer than, as many as, equal to, one more, one less
  • Identifying the numeral that is one larger than the current number up to 20
  • Composing (building) numbers 11-19 with tens and ones
  • Describing and comparing measurable attributes such as length and weight
  • Representing addition and subtraction with objects, drawings, or equations
  • Solving addition & subtraction word problems within 10 using objects, drawings, or equations
  • Decomposing (breaking apart) numbers up to 10 into pairs
  • Finding the number that makes 10 when added to a given number from 1-9
  • Fluently adding and subtracting within 5
  • Describing, naming shapes, and describing the position of objects
  • Correctly naming 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders, and spheres)
  • Identifying and comparing 2 D and 3 D shapes
  • Composing (building) shapes with clay, straws, string, etc.
  • Composing (building) larger shapes with smaller shapes
