Welcome back to a school year filled with learning, fun, and adventure! I hope all of you had a wonderful summer! Mine was great, but where does the time go? The week before school started, I was in El Salvador with a missions organization called the Central American Relief Project (CARP). I have been involved in a school sponsorship program for the past 7 years. I am currently sponsoring a little girl in second grade and was able to meet her teacher and visit her school. It was a very rewarding experience and reminded me how blessed we are to have access to so many resources her in the United States of America.
I am continuing to work as a Targeted Invention Teacher and School Support Staff for this coming school year. I love to watch students become stronger readers. I am very excited about being able to integrate more technology in the reading interventions this year. One of the programs I will be using is edmodo.com. Many students are very savy with face book, twitter, and texting. This program is similar to facebook in the way it is set up, so hopefully it was be motivational for students. It is a very secure site, and we will be using it to post fluency practice and to have book discussions. I would love for parents to participate and add comments. If you are interested in joining the discussion, please contact me. Each parent will only have access to their child's posts.
I am also looking forward to supporting positive behavior at Thurmont Elementary School. I just completed a masters program in school counseling at Regent University this past spring. I am going to be utilizing those skills as I provide support to our students at Thumont Elementary School.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child in the coming year. If you have any questions, please contact me at (240) 236-0910 or email me at email@example.com.
