Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year. I am excited to serve as the principal of Orchard Grove Elementary School where there is a dedicated staff and an engaged, supportive community. This is my 27th year in education in FCPS; I most recently was principal of Lewistown Elementary, a small school just north of Frederick City. I have worked as an assistant principal, teacher specialist and teacher over the years in a variety of schools and central office. My husband and I live near Lewistown and we have 3 grown daughters and their spouses; we are proud grandparents of 4 boys and 1 girl (all under the age of three). My passion is helping children grow emotionally, socially and academically and to develop growth mindsets. My motto is Challenge, Perseverance, and Commitment because these are three things needed to fully grow students’ minds, hearts, and character to be amazing citizens of the future.

Just as our staff at Orchard Grove Elementary School is committed to “work and learn and together to create strong thinkers, caring hearts and healthy bodies,” we strongly encourage you to “work, learn and care” with us as you serve in a most critical capacity of being your child’s most important and loved teacher.

Communication between home and school is vital because we value a collaborative school community and because of the role parents have in their child’s education. The Orchard Grove Elementary School staff is here to share students’ progress as well as information about the school program. Visitations are welcomed and encouraged along with other strategies (emails, notes, etc.) used to connect home and school. Please look for and read information in daily folders, the weekly parent newsletters, classroom newsletters, the FCPS Calendar Handbook, the OGES Parent Handbook, and updates on our website.

Our vision is that “students will leave Orchard Grove Elementary School being equipped with the skills, confidence, and character to continue their lifelong journey. Please join and support the PTA, volunteer your time and energy, participate in family events and always seek clarification to enhance collaboration and understanding. We thank you in advance for your cooperation, support and involvement with us as we “work and learn together to create strong thinkers, caring hearts and healthy bodies.

Please see the enclosed documents (printed prior to my assignment to OGES) for information about the school, your child’s teacher, and PTA. I look forward to meeting you and helping OGES continue to be an incredible learning environment.
