Jessica Fitzwater

Job Title:

Music Teacher

Jessica Fitzwater

This is my ninth year as a music teacher and I love my job! The performing arts have always been an important part of my life. I am very involved in the arts community here in Frederick. I play violin in the Frederick Symphony Orchestra and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Frederick Arts Council.

I am from Smithsburg, Maryland and I loved growing up by the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. I graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland in 2005 where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music. I graduated from Hood College in 2010 with my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. I have also completed all three levels of my

Orff-Schulwerk Certification, an approach to teaching music that is focused on student-centered musical learning.

In my free time, I like to listen to music, read, try out new recipes, exercise, and visit with friends and family. I also love to travel and have been to Israel, Italy, Mexico, and Puerto Rico! My husband and I have two cats, Oscar and Millie, and a dog named Georgie.

My goal for all of my music students is that they will develop the ability to express themselves through music and movement. My students and I work hard to develop basic musicianship skills including keeping a steady beat, singing in tune, being careful listeners, and music literacy (reading and performing rhythms and melodies).
