About Oakdale Elementary School

Oakdale Elementary School

OAKDALE ELEMENTARY is situated on part of an original land grant from King Charles II and is comprised of pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. Our school colors are burgundy and blue, and, because of the many owls on our site, our mascot is the owl.

With over 65 staff members, we provide students a variety of services to promote academic excellence, build self-esteem and develop moral character. We emphasize “pride of product” in every aspect of our school life. Because we have such a firm belief in collaboration with our families, we have an extremely active volunteer program and Parent Teacher Association.

OES has several special features that add to its uniqueness. We share a campus with Oakdale Middle School, separated by a trout stream and an environmental education area. There is an expanded parks/recreation community gym for after-school use by the community. Staff and students use the latest in technology with state-of-the-art projection systems, classroom and lab computers. All classrooms have access to Internet communications.

We are proud of all our children and staff, but a few accomplishments are worthy of special note. Our teachers were awarded several grants through WalMart and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to implement programs in environmental science and literacy. Also, solar panels have been installed to power one of our portable classrooms. As you can see, our school motto — "Character + Community + Commitment = Successful Learners" – really does sum up what we’re all about at OES.
