Grading Policy

Fifth Grade Grading Policy

Grades are calculated using an online software program.  Points are awarded to students for assignments completed.  The point value assigned is determined by each teacher and weighted depending on the significance of the assignment.  Quizzes, tests, and projects will be worth more points than daily assignments.  Grades are determined when the number of points earned is divided by the number of points possible.

Report card grades are based on the following grading scale:
90% - 100% = A
80% - 89% = B
70% - 79%  = C
60% - 69%  = D
59% or below = F
Students will also be scored for their effort.  It is just as important for students to always put forth their best effort in class at all times as it is to demonstrate mastery and perform well on assignments.
All assignments in fifth grade will be given due dates.  Students are expected to turn in their work on time.  Due dates for all assignments will be posted in the classroom.  Students will be given ample time for the assignment to be completed.  Students will be allowed to turn in the assignment 3 school days after the assigned due date and it will be accepted.  However, an assignment received after the due date will automatically go down one letter grade.  Assignments will not be accepted after the 3 school days past the due date.  Students will earn a 0 for the assignment.  Extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration and considered on an individual basis.
