Educational Philosophy

"Education is NOT the filling of pail, but the lighting of a fire" ~ William Yeats

My philosophy is that ALL children CAN learn. They may NOT all learn at the same pace and in the same way, however they can learn. To this end, I strive to create a classroom environment that promotes learning in many modalities. I utilize visual, audio and kinesthetic teaching strategies into each lesson through technology and movement.

Since all children learn at varing paces, I differentiate my lessons/instruction to meet the diverse needs of my students. This allows them to feel comfortable and successful in our classroom learning community and to take risks. Risk taking is an important skill for them to internalize due to ever changing demands in our society.

Multiple learning strategies are a must for any teacher to survive. Every child that walks through my door comes from a different background and therefore needs variety in order to learn and retain information. Having kids move, chant or sing to create mneumonic devices helps them along their path to success. I have found that this is the most useful instructional tool in my tool box of teaching tricks.
