In Language arts next week we will be focusing on rhyming. We will be reading many Dr. Seuss books to have discussions about rhyming words. We will also have “of” as our new word wall word and “in” as our new word family. Finally, we will continue our discussions about letter sounds. There will be a cultural arts program on Tuesday about showing good character. In math we are going to continue learning about numbers to 20. We will focus specifically on the teens as they are sometimes the most difficult.

Next week is going to be fun! Due to the shorter week we will not have a new word wall word but instead we will be reviewing all of the word wall words that we have learned so far. We will also begin to discuss rhyming words. In writing we will be writing about what we are thankful for as well as predict what we will eat on Thanksgiving. Tuesday will be a lot of fun. In the morning students will get to travel to each kindergarten classroom for 30 minutes to do different Thanksgiving activities.

Next week we are going to be learning about the word wall word “can.” We will also begin the word family “an” to learn words such as: man, fan and tan. (To learn this I pretend to hold the beginning letter in one hand and “an” in the other. Then I clap my hands to “mash” the sounds together as we say the word it makes) We will also learn more about the letter C and the sound that it makes. We will be writing about who we are thankful for as we begin our discussions about Thanksgiving. In math, we will continue to learn about measurement.

Next week we will be focusing on the new word wall word: for. The letter we will be discussing is F. Next week we are also going to begin learning about word families. (a.k.a word chunks) “At” will be our first word family. This means we will learn how to blend a beginning sound to the word “at” to make new words. For example, I may say, “if we know what sound f makes and the word “at” then we know f and at makes fat!” We will even learn how to blend nonsense words such as “yat” or “jat”. In mathematics we will begin a unit on measurement.
