About Mrs. Schaffer

I am thrilled to be a part of the New Market Elementary School community! Frederick County Public Schools has been my home for a very long time! As a child, I attended Yellow Springs Elementary School, Monocacy Middle School, and Governor Thomas Johnson High School.  During my college years, I also did not venture very far from home. I attended Towson State University, now Towson University. Finally, my post graduate work has been done through McDaniel College. Since graduating from college, I have worked for Frederick County Public Schools for the last 13 years!

I am also very proud to live in the New Market area. I live in Lake Linganore with my two daughters, Aubrey and Jacey, as well as my husband and my Chocoloate Labrador Retriever, Ripken. My daughter Aubrey, is also a part of the New Market Elementary School community, as a very enthusiastic fourth grader! Jacey just proudly began kindergarten! In the fall, I find myself cheering for the Glenelg Gladiators in Howard County, where my husband teaches and coaches Varsity Football. Fall is a very busy time in our household!

Teaching has always been a part of my life, as my mother is a retired Frederick County Public Schools kindergarten teacher! She has been a great help to me in my career and a true inspiration. Additionally, my brother is currently the Athletic Director at Urbana High School. I feel certain that both Aubrey and Jacey will eventually become teachers!

When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy going for long walks with my dog, Ripken. If the temperature is just right, I also enjoy going for a good run! Reading and listening to music are among my other hobbies. From September to February, I proudly display my purple best for the Baltimore Ravens! Then, once April rolls around, I put on my Baltimore Orioles gear and hope for a season better than the last!

I am so very happy to teach in such a wonderful school community! Thank you for the warm welcome! I look forward to a great year!
