Week of November 26, 2012

It is our first week back and we have adjusted nicely! We have discussed and had meaningful conversations about our Thanksgivings and different things we did over Thanksgiving break! It was really exciting to hear all of the fun everyone had!

We have been reading Ruthie and the (Not So) Teeny Tiny Lie in order to find the characters, setting, problem and solution. Before reading, we also made predictions after doing a class picture walk. We can't wait to see if we were right! We will find out on Friday when we re-read the entire book from front to cover! :)

In Math, we have just finished learning about 2D shapes. These are shapes that are flat! Some of the shapes that we have learned already are circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, trapzoids, hexagons, pentagons, stars, and diamonds! Ask us about some of the attributes of these shapes, we are experts! Our next standard that we are covering is counting to 20 by ones. We are using what we know about shapes to grab and count them into sets.

In Social Studies, we have been discussing our families, their roles, and things that we do with them. We have enjoyed discussing our Thanksgiving and drawing pictures of our family members. We love everyone!

We also look forward to having Book Buddies with our 3rd grade pals in Miss. Ehmann's class! They come to our classroom once a week with a book or story they have been working on. They get to read to us while we listen for certain things in their story such as the characters, setting, problem, and solution. We even get to read our little books to them, too!

Please be on the lookout for our Thursday Communication Flyer with what we have been doing weekly as well as how your child has been performing.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at danielle.helwig@fcps.org. I will be happy to answer any questions!

I am looking forward to our last few weeks of learning before winter break!!!
