Middletown beat Smithsburg 2-0 to complete a 5-1-1 CMC Gambrill season.
On the heels of an incredibly dramatic and draining evening, the Knights picked up the hard work where they left off and started on all cylinders against the Leopards. A number of early attacks led to threatening crosses, chances and shots. At the half-hour mark, the first goal of the match would come and what a beauty!
Bryce Martin was a menace to the SHS defense down the side all evening and he got in again to hit a perfect Bangu ball. Ethan Fontenot was the first runner in but the second runner in, Gabe Brusco, was the one to get to the ball for a nice side net finish—1-0!
Smithsburg had a couple of long range chances to serve notice that that they would offer a dangerous threat of their own but time and again the Knights defense was there to stop it.
The second half saw the Knights continue to threaten. With pressure coming from forwards, midfielders and defenders all over the field, it was only a matter of time before one of the numerous Knight double team wins would pay off. At the hour mark, it was Cooper Fisher who came out of a challenge with the ball. He hit an excellent split behind the defense into the path of Faris Prasetiawan who calmly lined up his one versus one with the SHS goalie and passed it into the side net—2-0!
There were excellent shifts from everyone at all positions yet again, continuing a trend for a team that is improving game by game. Best trend of all—3 consecutive shutouts. Goalkeeper Eli Flores was ready to make two saves and the defense of Matt Barlow, Bobby Bromwell, Jason Rapp, Dom Rudakevych and Alex Wilson have now guided the team to 295 consecutive scoreless minutes—wow!
To finish the week, it will be Linganore arriving Thursday for Senior Night, where we will honor our eight seniors prior to the game. Thank you for everything seniors!
