2A West Region Semifinals: Knights season ends at South Carroll

Middletown put on a furious finish but fell just short at South Carroll.  The 2-1 defeat leaves the Knights with a 9-6-1 record on the season.

An early goal originating from a Cavalier corner kick put the hosts up 1-0 early.  The play went back and forth until early in the second half when another set piece goal for SCHS doubled the lead.

Refusing to give in, the Knights unleashed a tremendous effort in the comeback.  A quick throw-in by Gary Higginbothem to Caleb Demas set up a throughball that split the defense.  Josh Greene ran on to the ball and his finish set up the exciting finish.

Chance after chance went just by and credit has to be given to South Carroll for their determined effort to hang on.  Led by 11 seniors, the 2011 Knights had left everything out on the field.  When the reward, the state playoffs, is so great it always stings to lose in such a heartbreaking way.  But all of the Knights were willing to risk it and for that we all thank you, not just for tonight's effort but for a great season.  Thank you to everyone who has cheered us on and rooted for us all year.
