2A West Region Quarterfinals: All Knights battle goes to MHS

Middletown won its home 2A West Quarterfinal by a 4-0 score over Wheaton.  Up next for MHS is a Thursday night game at South Carroll.  The 2A West Semifinal will start at 6pm.

On this night, it was the Black and Orange nights (wearing white) who got the best of the Red and Yellow Knights from Montgomery County.  After controlling possession, MHS finally broke through midway through the half with two quick strikes.  Caleb Demas provided the assist to Zach Fontenot, before Josh Greene set up Fontenot's second.

In the second half, it was a true playoff test for Middletown, as Wheaton refused to quit.  After some back and forth play, MHS finished the game off late.  Jacob Hargett was there at the far post to finish off a Greene rebound for a 3-0 lead.  The fourth goal came as a result of some lovely combination play, ending with Gary Higginbothem setting up Demas for a one-timed finish.  4-0!

The defense and goalkeeper Shane Falcinelli did a solid job all evening on some very talented attackers and earned a shutout.

MHS Girls 3, Winters Mill 2.  In the opener of the doubleheader, the girls team came from two goals down to earn themselves a trip to a 2A West Semi.  Good luck to all the Knights in the next round!
