Middletown battled back from a first-half deficit to win 3-2 at Tuscarora in overtime.
The match started out with THS dominating the scoring chances, narrowly missing as well as forcing several huge saves from Knights' goalkeeper Shane Falcinelli. A lovely free kick goal was finally the play that went in the net, giving the Titans a 1-0 lead.
As if awaken by the goal, MHS slowly started to find its way through the game. Zach Fontenot fed a nice ball into the path of Dylan Smith at the top box. Smith drove towards goal and was taken down for a penalty kick that Fontenot converted. The 1-1 score at halftime may have felt harsh for THS but the goal gave renewed spirit to the Black and Orange.
Fontenot was the goal scorer on the Knights' second, as Josh Greene hit a nice through ball into space. Fontenot beat the Titans' keeper to the ball, touched around him, and slotted the ball into the empty net. 2-1!
But the Titans were certainly not finished, striking back with a nice far post finish to tie the score at 2. Eighty minutes of regulation wouldn't be enough, so on to overtime the match went. Just over a minute into overtime, Fontenot's cross from the left side was met at the far post by a well-taken Gary Higginbothem half volley. The game winner means the Knights take a six game winning streak into their match against Smithsburg tomorrow evening. This match will also be our Senior Knight, as we honor our 11 seniors for all they have meant to the program. We hope you can come out to support our seniors and the rest of the guys as we take on the Leopards. Go Knights!
MHS JV 0, THS 0. Will Belke (GK) shutout.
