Middletown got a late goal to beat rival Walkersville, 1-0. The win is the Knights' fifth in a row.
An intense contest, played with playoff spirit and a frenetic pace, the game took a long time to settle itself down. Numerous dangerous opportunities for both sides went missing. Goalkeeper Shane Falcinelli and the defense came up big time after time for MHS until finally, the Black and Orange seized on their opportunity.
Building out of the back, Scott McMunn received a ball at midfield and brought it under control. Playing the ball to Josh Greene at midfield set up Greene for a dribble penetration that drew the WHS defense. Zach Fontenot got on the end of Greene's ball, touched around the charging goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the empty net for the game's only goal with less than four minutes to go. The host Lions battled hard all the way to the final whistle but Fontenot's goal would stand. Next up for the Knights is a trip to Tuscarora for what will be another tough challenge. Good luck Knights! Thank you to all the fans who travelled out to support us!
