Marcia Stutzman

Marcie Stutzman

Mrs Stutzman is honored to be the recipient of a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching, and spent January through June 2017 in Rabat, Morocco, researching how oral proficiency in foreign languages is learned in that country. She observed in classrooms from middle school to university graduate level, in public and private institutions throughout the country, and reported her findings at four international conferences. She also learned a great deal about the culture of Morocco, and studied Arabic. She teaches French and Spanish at Middletown High. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University, has a master's degree in English Education from Ohio State University, and a master's degree in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University. She is currently a doctoral student in Literacy at Salisbury University.

She is married and has three children who graduated from Middletown High, all of whom are in college or beginning a career.

The best way to contact her is at marcia.stutzman@fcps.org. Specific information for each class, including the syllabus,  can be found on the Google page for each, found below.

All students:  Spend 20 MINUTES DAILY watching videos in French or Spanish, reading websites or other sources in your language, or practicing speaking with someone. The best way to improve your proficiency in a second language is to practice using it!

Fall 2017 Classes:

French 4-- On-going assignment Term 1: Find a movie in French that you will enjoy watching over and over, and watch it over and over. Start with the subtitles in English. When you have a good idea of what is going on, look for close-captioning in French, and then turn off the subtitles and just watch and listen. Your goal is to be able to watch and understand the movie in French, and to be able to re-create for me a dialogue from the movie in which you can speak the lines in the voice of the actor or actress. Check with your parents and me to make sure that what you have chosen is appropriate for the task.
