Hello! My name is Maegan Olson, and I am thrilled to be a teacher at Kemptown. This is my 3rd year of teaching Kindergarten. I adore teaching our young learners and seeing their curiosity bloom as they learn.
I went to Shepherd University in West Virginia for my Bachelor's Degree and I am currently taking courses towards my Master's Degree at Hood College. I am focusing on Curriculum and Instruction so I can learn all I can about teaching each subject area.
I grew up in Frederick County on a dairy farm, so the agriculture community is near and dear to my heart. I love all things outdoors and the The Great Frederick Fair is one my favorite weeks of the year.
My husband and I got married in July of 2019 and now live in Thurmont, MD with our Golden Retriever named Henry. He is so goofy and loves to cuddle on the couch. A few of my favorite activities are taking Henry for walks, going to the beach, getting coffee, and tending to my garden. There is nothing like a fresh-grown tomato!
In my classroom, I cherish relationships above all else. Respect is a two-way street, and children must feel respected and safe before they can open up their minds and bodies to learn. My favorite quote is from the move, The Help. "You is kind, you is smart, you is important." Of course, the grammar is not correct, but the message is the same. I want each of my students to know that they are kind, smart, and very important to me. We will work together to create a classroom full inventors, helpers, creators, scientists, mathematicians, researchers, explorers, and friends!
