FCPS invites parents of elementary students and interested community members to an:
Elementary Health Education Curriculum Preview
For the duration of one day each semester, four (4) identical PARENT PREVIEW PRESENTATIONS are held so that parents have an opportunity to learn and preview materials of instruction used in Elementary Health Education; including, but not limited to, scripted lessons and supplemental videos, as well as speaking with the Department's Curriculum Specialist. These sessions are planned to conveniently fit the schedules of those wishing to preview such materials, but are also otherwise available for reservation and review throughout the school year through the Professional Library and Instructional Materials Center (PLIMC), located at 44 West Frederick Street (Room 7). The information for these sessions for the 2015-2016 school year are as follows:
WHEN: o Tuesday, September 15, 2015 o Wednesday, January 13, 2016 WHERE: FCPS Staff Development Center 44 West Frederick Street, Walkersville, MD 21793 TIME(S): Session 1: 9:30am to 11:00am Session 2: 12:00pm to 1:30pm Session 3: 2:00pm to 3:30pm Session 4: 6:00pm to 7:30pm
The focus of each session will be on the Personal Safety unit that is taught in elementary Health Education classes (grades Pre-K through 3). The FCPS Curriculum Specialist for Elementary Health and Physical Education will also be available to address parents on other elementary school health topics, such as Substance Abuse and Prevention, Disease Prevention, HIV and AIDS education, and Family Life Education.
***Attendees will also have the opportunity to preview lessons and instructional materials associated with each of these topics, as well as the NEW Substance Abuse & Prevention materials that will be taught in Grades 4 & 5 this year.
