Erin Chaney

Special Education
Welcome to a new school year at Glade Elementary School!
My name is Erin Chaney and I am the new Special Education Teacher for grades K-5. For four years, I have served in the Frederick County Public School System as both a substitute as well as a student teacher. I attended and graduated from Hood College with a B.A. in Elementary Special Education. During my student teaching at Hood, I worked in various schools including Spring Ridge, Centerville, Woodsboro and most recently Glade. In addition, I have worked with a variety of grade levels during these placements including 2nd, 5th, and 3rd. I completed my final year of student teaching here at Glade in 1st grade, and then in Special Education in the Resource Room. I am so thrilled to be back at Glade to work with the many wonderful students, family, and faculty in this exciting new position.
To prepare for this position prior to the beginning of the school year; I attended the new hire workshops for FCPS geared towards special education through which I gained valuable resources, strategies, and ideas. In addition, I attended the orientations at Glade with both the new hires and the returning teachers, and have worked on setting up my room, getting to know my co-workers, and planning for the upcoming school year. I am looking forward to implementing these resources and ideas in the classroom throughout the year.

I look forward to meeting all of the families of my students, and working with you closely throughout the school year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by phone at 240-236-2117 or email at I look forward to meeting all of you very soon as well as working with your children throughout the school year. Let’s have a wonderful year together!

Typical Day
Throughout the day I work with many different students on different goals and objectives as outlined by their IEP or Individualized Education program. I work with my team members as well as the Special Education instructional assistants to ensure that students are receiving their services and accommodations to provide the best possible learning experience for all students. I also get to co-teach 5th grade with Karen Dondzila and 2nd grade with Lindsay D'Atri. I absolutely love my job because I get to do a little bit of everything and work with a variety of students and staff members.
