Flexible Evening High School Program

Flexible Evening High School (FEHS) offers many courses required for graduation.  It is an alternative to the comprehensive high school environment, where students experience independent learning in online courses with the support of a content-certified mentor teacher.  Face to face support is available twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6-8 pm.

While a complete academic agreement will be completed during the registration process, some general principles of the program are described below.  Please review this information and ask your school counselor for more information if necessary.  Make an appointment with your school counselor to discuss course options available through Flexible Evening High School.  Please print the pre-registration form linked on the bottom of this page.

  • TIME and COMMITMENT
    • FEHS courses are rigorous and academically challenging.  They require a strong student commitment.  Students should come to class twice a week and be prepared to work for the entire time.  Some students will also need to put in additional time outside of these evening sessions to complete the course.
    • Courses run from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays
    • Courses are offered at Gov. Thomas Johnson Middle School
    • Classes have a scheduled plan for completion, with support from mentors and a counselor
    • Coursework is primarily completed online and is accessible via any Internet-ready computer (exception is Work Study)
  • ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS
    • Students are expected to attend 2 sessions each week.
    • Students should not miss more than 2 sessions a month.
      • More than 2 absences may result in removal from the course.
    • Students should be active and submit assignments weekly in the course.
    • Students with extended inactivity, as determined by FCVS staff, may result in removal from the course.
    • Absences related to extracurricular activities, vacation, or work schedules are not excused.
  • GRADES
    • All grades are submitted electronically to a student's school after the student completes the course
    • Bi-weekly progress reports sent via email (grades not posted in Home Access Center / HAC)
    • FCVS offers merit level courses for original credit or credit recovery in its FEHS program
  • COMMUNICATION
    • Students and parents are required to each provide a working email address when registering for a course.  This email address will be used to communicate progress.
  • TRANSCRIPT
    • There is a ten day drop period for all courses unless otherwise noted at orientation
  • SCHOOL POLICIES
    • There are mandatory parent & student orientation sessions for these courses
    • Students may take only one class at a time
    • New sections of courses begin monthly from September until February
    • A content-certified teacher monitors student progress and assists students (no stand-up instruction)
