“Challenges” serves the needs of students, age 3-21, with autism and/or severe communication disorders. The program uses a variety of instructional strategies, including Applied Behavioral Analysis, based on individual student needs. Classes are staffed with a high adult-to-student ratio, and opportunities are available for inclusion in general education, as appropriate. The program also takes place at Middletown Primary and Elementary, Oakdale Middle and Governor Thomas Johnson Middle and High.
DCES has one class in the Challenges Program led by Ms. Malagari. The Challenges Program provides integrated support to students with special needs in communication, social skills, academics, and pre-vocational/vocational skills.
