I received my Bachelors degree in Music Education and Trombone Performance at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in 1985. One year later, I completed my Masters degree in Music Education, also at Oberlin College. I was very fortunate to do my student teaching at the American School in London, England.
My first professional teaching experience was in the city of Maple Heights, OH. I directed elementary and high school bands in that city from 1986-1991. In 1991, I moved to Frederick County, Maryland and became the Linganore High School band director. I transferred to Urbana High School when it opened it 1995.
In 1999 I decided to switch to elementary band/orchestra, because I missed working with young musicians. I have been teaching elementary instrumental music in the Linganore/Oakdale feeder ever since.
My teaching duties place me at Deer Crossing, Liberty, New Market, Oakdale and Twin Ridge Elementary Schools. Every school is unique and every school is special. I might be the teacher, but I believe my students teach me something new everyday!
Mr. Racster and I have designed a program that systematically teaches students the art of playing an instrument and the joy of performing with others. We believe that every young musician can be successful and instrumental music is wonderful because hard work always produces great results!
In Frederick County Public Schools, instrumental music is offered to all 4th and 5th graders. If your child is interested in playing an instrument, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 240-236-1281.
