Eat Healthy Challenge

September 4th-10th:

Summers Farm and FCPS invite you to participate in a Food Pyramid Challenge from September 3-7, 2012.  Eating healthy is one of the most important steps that people of all ages can take to improve their health.  FCPS and Summers Farm feel strongly that improving the health of our children begins at home.  The Food Pyramid Challenge provides your family with an opportunity to participate in healthy eating together.  The goal is to work together as a family to complete the challenge.

During the first week of school, your student will be given the Eat Healthy Challenge sheet to be taken home to you.  This challenge is optional, but we encourage all families of Carroll Manor to participate with their children.  For one week, September 3-7, students and their families are to eat a variety of foods from each of the food categories, and list those foods on the Eat Healthy Challenge sheet provided to you.  This week is dedicated to beginning introductions to food categories and nutrition for our students, and your help is needed by participating with your child.  Once the challenge week has passed, return the completed form to Mr. Gibbons or Ms. Shriver by September 14th, 2012.

Every student who participates and returns a completed form, will receive a voucher for free admission to Summers Farm for the Fall season 2012

As of June 2011, the USDA unveiled changes to the previous food guide, MyPyramid, to the new MyPlate. The following link will display the new food guide icon and display its basic messages to consumers. USDA made changes in their dietary guidelines in January of 2011, and MyPlate is to reflect those guidelines for Americans.
