Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) to school is one way FCPS promotes greater access to exceptional teaching and learning. In creating learning environments that allow students and staff to acquire real-time information and creatively express what they learn in a variety of ways, schools challenge students and staff to use resources and content knowledge to solve real-world problems. Today's tools help schools better prepare students to realize their potential for success as global citizens.
Catoctin High School will start using Google Apps for Education(GAFE) with students starting March 12, 2014. Each student will have an account to this service which will provide (1) space to save files, (2) programs to create documents, presentations, forms, and spreadsheets, and (3) the ability to easily collaborate with teachers and other students. This will be a free (and ad-free) service provided to the students through Google, yet is fully contained within the FCPS domain. This means that students will only be able to collaborate and share files with FCPS staff members and FCPS students. Staff members at CHS have already been trained on GAFE and are familiar with the program. Students will access their accounts by the same username as their computer log-ins and the password is their student ID number. They can start using their accounts by visitingdrive.fcps.org.
