Why do you need to pay to become a member?
PTA is the largest organization working exclusively for children and youth with nearly 7 million members nationwide.
The BHS PTSA is organized and chartered under the authority of the MDPTA thereby holding us accountable to act within the stated purpose above. Our $10 membership fee gets broken down so that $4.25 of your dues get passed on to the MDPTA and $.75 of your dues get passed on to the PTA Council of Frederick. This may seem like a lot, but we believe our children and families benefit greatly from the many efforts of the MDPTA and PTA Council of Frederick. Here are a few of the ways they are working for us:
- The PTA stays informed of state plans regarding funding and budget cuts related to education and advocates for education spending. They keep MD parents informed and urge and encourage our participation in the outcomes.
- The PTA encouraged MD parents to advocate for legislation to implement the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future saying YES to strong schools in Maryland.
- The PTA organizes informational sessions like their “Tele- Town Hall” with Senator Chris Van Hollen and “Legislative Night” in Annapolis hosting State Senators and Delegates from around the state to assist in ensuring the voices of MD parents are heard by our political leaders.
- The PTA Council of Frederick hosts “School Board Candidates Night” and “Superintendent Chats” to keep us connected and informed of what’s happening in Frederick County.
