Meritorious Service Hours

Meritorious Service Learning is a program for students who are performing service in the community that is above and beyond what is required by the school for graduation.  Students will receive recognition for their efforts at a school assembly if they accumulate 50 hours or more in their four years of high school.

Occasionally, questions arise as to what activities can and cannot be recognized as meritorious service.  According to the MSDE Student Service Learning Guidelines:

-Any service-learning activity whose chief purpose is to convert others to a particular religious or spiritual view and/or which denigrates the religious or spiritual views of others may not be counted toward the service-learning graduation requirement or for Meritorious Service Learning Recognition.

-Any service-learning activity whose chief purpose is to help prepare and/or participate in the performance of a religious service or religious education activity may not be counted toward the service-learning graduation requirement or for Meritorious Service Learning Recognition.
