Welcome to my site! My name is Jonathan Cook and this will be my 16th year teaching music at Brunswick Elementary School. History: I was raised in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains on a small farm. My home town is Glade Spring VA. I loved music since before I could talk! My parents recall the days when I would "sing" in baby talk to my favorite Church Hymns. Army: I Graduated from Holston High School, Damascus, VA. in 1993 and joined the United States Army National Guard. I served in Fort Leonard wood MO., Fort A.P. Hill VA., Camp Anna berry IN., and 1032nd Transportation Company in Bristol VA. I served six active years then two inactive years with the Inactive Ready Reserve. I was honorably discharged in June, 2000. Associates Degree: While I was serving in the Army National Guard I attended Virginia Highlands Community College and earned an Associates Degree in Arts & Science. Bachelors Degree: I was accepted to James Madison University and JMU's School of Music in the fall of 1998. At James Madison I pursued my true love for music and teaching children. I played the saxophone in the marching band, and completed an intense study of voice in the area of Italian, French, and German Opera under the instruction of Dr. In Dal Choi. Other instruments I have studied include the guitar, piano, and 3 versions of the sax including alto, tenor, and baritone. I have performed in the top choirs of J.M.U. including the chorale, and the Madison singers. I performed in notorious places like the National Cathedral and Syntagma square in Athens Greece. Family: I met my wife at J.M.U. She is a micro-biologist, soccer coach, and coordinator for PVYA Soccer. We have been married for 15 years. We have four children - 3 Girls and 1 Boy: ages 13, 10, 4, and 1. We are active in the comunitiy including church, many soccer activities, and local community events. Masters Degree: Masters of Science, Education, Walden University, November 2009.
