Mrs. Branzell holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Mount St. Mary’s University. Mrs. Branzell also holds an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University. She has been a part of the BCMS team for five years and enjoys spending time with her husband and three cats, reading, and playing video games.

Academic Expectations: Students are expected to complete work on time. Late work will only be accepted through the following dates per term and will result in a 10% grade deduction unless otherwise communicated with individual students due to excused absences.

November 11 - December 20 (midterm)

January 2 - January 28 (end of term)

January 30 - March 4 (midterm)

March 5  - April 8 (end of term)

April 14 - May 8 (midterm)

May 11 - June 22* (end of term

Materials:

  • Folder OR a separate space in a larger binder (separate from other classes)

  • Loose-leaf lined paper 

  • At least one pencil, pen, and highlighter

  • Headphones or earbuds 

  • Novels and short stories will be provided. If a novel or short story is being worked on in class, it should be brought daily.

Behavioral Expectations: Students are expected to adhere to all responsibilities outlined in the FCPS student handbook (found online at fcps.org and in the back of school calendars). Students should expect to be treated with respect and to have their student rights honored, while also being a productive and respectful member of the BCMS community.

Behaviors that disrupt the learning of any student will result in a coordinating consequence according to BCMS’s PBIS structure. Please refer to the PBIS behavior plan included in the department letter. 

Tutoring: Students may receive tutoring by requesting to be signed up for BEST tutoring sessions or by requesting help during independent work time in class.
