Since 1957 the Frederick County Outdoor School has provided quality outdoor educational experiences to the students of Frederick County Public Schools. Currently the Outdoor School provides instruction to over 6,000 students annually. The Outdoor School program spans state and local curriculums across multiple subject areas including science, math, social studies, and language arts. Students are exposed to environmental issues that encourage them to become environmental stewards for our local watersheds and the Cheasapeake Bay. Throughout the outdoor experience students also meet Maryland requirements for Student Service Learning.
The Outdoor School Program is aligned with the essential curriculum for science as a required experience for all FCPS 5th and 6th grade students. This program experience fulfills several MSDE requirements:
- Student Service Learning (click here for further information)
- The Environmental Education By-Law
- The Chesapeake Bay 2000 Agreement (Meaningful Bay Experience)
