Homework for first grade is only to be about 10-15 minutes an evening.  Your child will receive reading group books weekly that are to be practiced each evening.  You may also ask your child questions about the books to increase their comprehenion.  Additionally, throughout the year we will be working with high frequency words and fluency passages.  For math your child will receive math facts 0-20 addition and subtraction.  Fluency in these facts are important to acquire as is speed.

Welcome to Mrs. Noffsinger's class.  I started teaching in the 2003-2004 school year.  I have taught the entire time here at New Market Elementary.  However, I taught 5th grade for my first nine years.

Prior to working at NMES I was a stay-at-home mom for my three children.  My oldest son, Michael is a paid fireman for Loudoun Co. VA.  My middle son, Joe, is in the criminology field.  My daughter, Hannah, attends Salisbury University where she is pursuing a degree in nursing.  I attended Mount St. Mary's University and received my undergraduate in elementary education.  As well, I graduated in the spring of 2011 from Hood's Reading Specialist Program.  My husband John and I built a house several years ago on his family's farm near Adamstown.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time outside.

I am looking forward to another wonderful year here at NMES.
