About Mr. Lauber

In 1994, I earned my Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland in College Park.  I have also earned my Master's Degree in Reading Instruction from Hood College.

Teaching History
My first teaching experience was with the After School Program at Greenbelt Center Elementary, where I extended the school day for inner-city kindergartners and first graders.  After getting my Bachelor's Degree at UMD in 1995, I taught first and second grade science at J. Frank Dent Elementary School in Fort Washington, MD.  In 1997, I moved to Frederick County and taught third grade for six years at Glade Elementary in Walkersville.  In 2003, I transferred to New Market Elementary and taught third grade for six years, fourth grade for four years, and fifth grade for one year. This school year, I have returned to third grade, making this my thirteenth year as a third grade teacher.

Personal History
I was born and raised in Greenbelt, Maryland.  I joined the US Army Infantry in 1985 and served for four years.  After Basic Training in Fort Benning, Georgia, I was stationed in Mainz, West Germany until I was honorably discharged in 1989.  My proudest accomplishments in the Army were working with the German First Lady Hannelore Kohl, being a sniper in the 8th Infantry Division Rifle Team, earning the rank of Sergeant E-5, immersing myself in the German culture and getting to travel throughout Western Europe.  Unfortunately I left just months before the Berlin Wall came down!

I met my wife, Janet Ramsey-Lauber when I arrived at Glade Elementary in 1997.  She was the new art teacher and I was the new third grade teacher.  This past summer, we celebrated our fifteenth wedding anniversary in the Napa Valley in California.  I have a 26-year-old stepdaughter Rachel, who graduated from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. she currently works in New York City.

As a hobby, I have worked part-time in bookstores for the past 25 years.  I currently work at Barnes & Noble in FSK Mall on Monday evenings and Sundays.  I love long-distance running and I have run in nine marathons.  I am a huge movie buff and bookworm.
