Welcome to Ms. Provenza's 7th Grade Science Class!
The preferred method of teaching science in the 21st century is a student-centered, inquiry based approach. My class is formatted to this approach. Students will be assessed at the beginning of each unit and they will be assigned to a working group of students with similar abilities. Every two weeks students will complete a rotation highlighting one concept form the unit. For 5 or 6 days they will research and explore the concept collecting information from various activities. These activities will include videos, PowerPoint presentations, textbooks, laboratory activties, as well as application and extension worksheets. I act as a mentor and resource person during this time. I am available to help clarify information, solve problems, and advise students. Every day we will have a warm-up that clarifies or explains a portion of the concept. The second week of the rotations students will receive a study guide or review packet and we will spend Wednesday and Thursday pulling together all of the information they have collected, discussing this information, and reviewing for a quiz on Friday.
Special Help: Students can always get help during class. They can also come in at lunchtime or during ELT.
Homework: Standing daily homework (15-20 min.), - study notes or use Quizlet or Khan Academy to review, students may complete unfinished worksheet as homework as needed.
Remind 101: All important assignments, i.e. article summaries, projects, or Unit tests will be sent out on Remind 101
